Hagglers Corner

'dog sitting' Oskar with a 'k' for a week has seen us out and about, taking the opportunity to go to places we either haven't visited or haven't visited for a long time. Hagglers Corner is the former.

I passed this place every day on my way into work and it always intrigued me. It's on the edge of the Antiques Quarter in Sheffield and is number 1 on the map, and under the 'cafe, bars and artisan food suppliers'. I could see there was something interesting through the arch but had never stopped to investigate. As we needed to go into Sheffield I decided that we could combine the trip with a coffee stop at Hagglers Corner and then a walk in Endcliffe Park with Oskar.  As we walked through the arch this is what we saw

a delightful courtyard, partly under cover

and an area in the corner for young children

The painting on the wall is of an ice-cream shop which is at the bottom of the Sheffield Parkway.
Inside didn't disappoint either ( well not us anyway), miss-matched tables and chairs with comfy saggy sofas

It's owned by Sarah and Dave. We spent a long time talking to Sarah about how the cafe started and their plans for the future making a mental note to go back for one of their live music evenings.

They have a licence and a glass of wine would go very nicely with some of the lovely food that is on offer. Unfortunately we were only there for coffee but that was GOOD and so was the minted chocolate brownie that I had. It was very much the kind of place David and I like to go to, it is what it is - not all shiny tables, spotless and modern decor but comfy and welcoming where people take time to talk to you. Do give it a go if you're nearby you'll find it here

  1. Hi Anne,

Just spotted your blog whilst visiting Kate at Just Pootling. My other half would love this little Antiques place. He is an avid collector of some thirty plus years. So nice they allowed Oskar to look around with you. Will have to make a mental note for if we're over that way. I did have a chuckle too at your post about the Goose.

    1. Thank you for your comment Mitzi, so nice to hear from you. It was a lovely hour there and having done quite a lot of the antiques trail it is certainly worth doing. I love reading about places via blogs and we have gone all over finding and visiting them. I always like to give the little places a mention, they often need all the publicity they can get to keep going. Anne

    1. Yes it is, not sure how much haggling goes on as there as the 'residents' consist of a seamstress, piano teacher, a picture framer and an actor's agency to name afew.
